Three things I would do to improve my work would be:

• Improve my shading of lighter areas
• Try and add more detail to the face.
• Experiment more with tones.

I did find this project challenging, but I was surprised at the end result .

Evaluation of my work so far!:D

So far we have covered portraits and Pop Art!!! We did a pencil drawing of Twiggy, which helped us develop our shading skills! I found the light shading really hard because it was kind of hard to make it look realistic. We used the grid method, and this made it easier to do a really precise drawing, and this really helped me to create a more exact and accurate drawing.

My favourite Pop Art image!

This is my favourite pop art image. It is by Andy Warhol, the man who made pop art huge in America.

 

The reason I like this image a lot is that it uses a range of bright colours, not just a few. Also it is 8 separate images, instead of just 1,2,3 or 4. There is more for the eye to look at. Also the panda is cool!

I also like this image. It is a poster from polyvore.com, its the mockingjay from The Hunger Games book series. I like the range of colours used, and it seems rustic and faded; like it has many layers to it.

 

What is Pop Art?

Pop Art stands for "popular art". It started gaining popularity in the mid 1950s, in the United States. It generally used images from popular industry like food, news, advertisement, etc. Also, the art created a sense of optimism after World War 2. It was fresh and young, and embraced popular culture. It usually involved bright, neon colours.

One of the main artists who influenced Pop Art was Andy Warhol (born 1928, died 1987.) He painted pretty much anything, such as celebrities; including his famous Marilyn Monroe; soup cans and many more. Warhol embraced the American culture like no other artist. Warhol's approach to painting was this:I think every painting should be the same size and the same colour so they're all similar and nobody thinks they have a better or worse painting."

In the image above, Warhol shows that you can embrace even the simplest of culture through painting, like these soup cans, which would normally be dull, but now are electrified with colours.

This collage of 9 Marilyn Monroe's is perhaps the piece most widely associated with Warhol.
